This morning we left Fargo and the Baymont Hotel. The hotel is badly in need of renovation but was a great source of shelter and comfort for us. Our route took us mainly west through farmland. We rode 28 miles on highway 81, a two lane highway with no shoulder and a 65 mph speed limit. We had two close calls from a car and a tractor trailer. Both passed us way too close for comfort. The draft from the truck practically pushed us off the road. We saw fields of corn, soybeans, sugar beets and the highlight of the day, sunflowers. We were mesmerized by the fields of sunflowers, seemingly at their peak of flowering. We also saw a manufacturing plant where sunflowers are processed into sunflower oil. They also crush other seeds into oil there. We are camping at Patrick Pearce park in Enderlin. Patrick Pearce was one of the founders of Enderlin. It has a pavilion and two flush toilets and sinks but not showers. The site is nicely placed next to Maple River and of course active railroad tracks. Ross, the president of the Enderlin park system, stopped by to see how we were doing. He has lived his entire life in Enderlin.
