Today was the day of our discovery hike. It was a hike into the wilderness area of Denali. It was guided by a ranger who started us at the Teklanika River. Our first task was to wade into the icy cold river to get into the woods. Here there is no trail to follow as we made our way past bushes, trees and over moss so thick our feet sunk several inches in to the turf. We did not see any wildlife but did see tracks from bear, moose, wolf and caribou. Our guide took us through many water crossings as we zig zagged our way. We attempted to cross the main river but the current was to deep and too fast for us to cross safely. We boarded a bus which took us deeper into the park and there we saw a mother grizzly with two cubs, a group of Dall sheep, a caribou, a fox and some ducks. It was a really special ending to our time in Denali. Tomorrow it is back to Anchorage.
