Today was our last day in Vancouver. We woke up to heavy rain. We packed our bags and got ready to check out of the Blue Horizon. Our Uber driver drove a Tesla. Our luggage barley fit in his car. We decided to get to the ship before the 12:00 noon check in time so that we would be early. We arrived at 10:30 only to find that there were hundreds if not thousands of passengers before us. Although there were many people we were processed through customs and on to the ship in less than 30 minutes. We ate an early lunch on board and were in our room by 11:45. We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the ship and getting a tour of the spa and fitness room. Laura was happy to see the ship had a heated indoor pool and spa. There was also a hydro spa that we could use for just $198 for the week. At 4:00 start the ship left the dock and since it was Sunday we were able to attend 5:00 mass with Father Roman. His is a Canadian citizen but was a monk in Ukraine for a number of years. Unknown to him he lived in an area which had been contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster. Near death he was diagnosed with radiation poisoning and sent back to Canada for treatment. He has damaged kidneys and is deaf in his left ear but has survived and his outlook is positive. Our evening concluded with steak and prime rib and then a presentation on Alaska and tips on what to see and do. Tomorrow is a day at sea so Laura is eagerly searching for activities to fill our day.
