Today was another typical cold and rainy day. The temperature ranged from the mid 40s to mid 50s. We started the day with a short hike near the Nenana river. The river gets its water from the Nenana glacier. The trail has a raft launch that is steep, long and scary. Glad we are not rafting today. We then went on a two hour hike on the McKinley trail. The tour was led by Annie, a park ranger. She showed us several scenic views and told us about trees and plants. The Quaking Aspen was one of those trees. It turns out that an Aspen can have many trunks with roots that are connected underground making it a single organism. After a brief rest we went on a Denali Wilderness bus tour. It took us 43 miles deep into the park. Unfortunately the only wildlife we saw were three Dall sheep, a Ptarmigan, and two Ravens sitting on a nest under a bridge. Tomorrow it is back to exploring the park.
