July 28, Riecks Lake Campground, Alma, Wisconsin

Today started out as a lovely 57 mile ride.  We said goodbye to the Elliotts and made our way to the Great River Trail.  Everything was going well until a bug flew in my mouth.  It stung me in the tounge and then my lip.  My tongue started to swell to the point I could not swallow and my breathing was getting difficult.  We all started to search for benadryl in our first aid kits but could not find any.  Laura dialed 911 and EMS had an ambulance there in about 20 minutes.  They gave me adrenaline at the scene and followed up with benadryl in the ambulance.  They took me to Mayo hospital in La Crosse.  There they gave me steroids and an IV for fluids.  The swelling went down and I was released. We got to camp just in time for dinner.  As we started to clean up a thunderstorm hit, soaking all of us.  The wind was so strong it took all of us to hold down the canopy but eventually the canopy support sheared off. Eventually the storm passed and the sun came out.  Just another day of adventure.
