Today was our last full day of the cruise. We sailed into Valparaiso this morning. The city is built into a hillside with steep roads. Our guide compared it to San Francisco but the comparison is a bit of a stretch. It is a city of about 300,000 with buildings painted with a combination of murals and graffiti. The only similarity I saw was that there are many feral dogs that leave their waste all over the sidewalks (versus human waste in San Francisco).
Our first stop was at Museo Baburizza. It is a mansion purchased in 1925 by Pascual Baburizza, a Croation businessman. He lived with two of his nephews and died of tubercolsis. The home was made into a museum in 1971 and contains a lot of donated artwork.
Because of the steep hills, the town built funiculars, a rail system to ascend and descend the hills. At one point there were 15 funiculars throughout the city but there are only 3 running now. We were able to ride a funicular down one of the slopes.
It was then on to Museo Fonck. The museum had many artifacts from early indigenous people including the Rapa Nui who lived on a nearby island.
By late afternoon we were back at the ship and started to pack our suitcases which need to be outside our cabin by 10 pm tonight.
At dinner I had an interesting dessert called Malus. It is an apple ganache with apple filling. It was a real work of art with a wonderful taste.

Spectacular finale! I like this day...blue sky, pulse of a city, contrast of graffiti and galleried art, historical museum, interesting architecture and the dessert! Sweet dreams 🎂 💤 Easy travels home.
