Chilean Fjords near Isla Chalaca, Dec 12 2025

 Today was a crazy day.  Very rough seas, with waves about 20 feet, last night made us feel like we were going to roll out of bed.  We dodged rough seas near Drake Passage but they caught up with us as we ventured into the ocean.  On top of that, our toilet wouldn't flush in the middle of the night,  We woke up at 6:00 am to find the toilet still not working so we ventured out to the pool deck and found a working bathroom.  At that point we went to the nearby lounge chairs and caught some more sleep.  The chairs were amazingly comfortable and were outfitted with blankets.  While laying there we could hear the roar of the waves in the pool.  Water was spilling out over the sides and up several steps above the pool level.  This contiuned for about two hours until they drained the pool.  The rough seas continued until dinner time.

Later in the afternoon we attended the port talk for tomorrow.  Our next port is Puerto Montt, named after Manuel Montt Torres, the president of Chile from 1851 to 1861.  We heard a briefing on our excursion tomorrow.  Once again, we enjoyed some piano music and took a short tour of the Viking museum on board.  We spent a few minutes listening some guitar music and songs before seeing a show at the planetarium in the Explorers lounge.  The Explorers lounge has a great view out the aft of the ship.

At last we re-entered the Chilean Fjords and the calm seas around it.  It was nice being able to walk in a straight line.  As we move north the days are getting shorter with sunset coming earlier  (9:20 pm) and sunrise is coming later, now at 6:12 am.  We expect to arrive at Puerto Montt around 8:00 am tomorrow.
