Sept 8, Day 86, Pine Near RV Park, Winthrop, WA

 Dan O'Neil, our leader from our Pacific Coast ride, surprised us by meeting us by biking into camp.  He is on his own ride around the country.  Our layover day was spent exploring Winthrop.  We toured a museum based mainly around a key founder and the history of the town.  Guy Waring, noted as a Harvard graduate,  came to the area in 1891 when gold mining was the main industry.  Guy set up a Trading company to sell products to the miners.  He also started a number of other businesses in the area such as an apple orchatd, cattle ranch and sawmill.  The town was named after the governor of Massachusetts. We had lunch at Jacks 3 finger Saloon, stopped in several stores and went on a short hike.  Only 3 biking days left but tomorrow is expected to be one of our most demanding days.
