Sept 7, Day 85, Pine Near RV Park, Winthrop, WA

Last night we treated the group to dinner at the Breadline Cafe in Omak.  It was to celebrate our anniversary and nearing the end of our tour.  Today was another one of those short mile days (45) with high elevation gains (4,114 ft).  Laura is battling knee pain so she shuttled to Winthrop.   The rest of us went over Loop Loop Pass at 4,020 ft.  Early in the ride we saw many apple orchards with apples ready  to be picked.  We got our first look at some of the trees that were burned in some of the recent wildfires.   There are still two major fires in the Cascades that we will have to deal with this weekend,  the Blue Lake fire (20% contained) and the Sourdough fire (50% contained).  The town of Winthrop is a real western looking town with a saloon and a general store.  We will have more time to explore it tomorrow on our layover day.
