 Today we said goodbye to the YOLO and literally watched it sail away with a new group of passengers.  We went for a walk along the water to see where the beaches were.  We were disappointed that the beaches were small, made up of pebbles which led to shallow water with a rocky bottom.

We checked into the XII Century Heritage Hotel and were very pleased with our room.  Although it is on the 3rd floor (no elevator) we do have a great view of the water front.  The room is spacious with a very large bathroom.

We ate a late lunch at the Queen Teuta restuarant and enjoyed a wonder selection of sea bass, prawns, squid and mussels.  It was served with circular, flat loaf of garlic bread.  The restaurant was named after Queen Teuta, a rare and strong female leader of the Illyrian people in the early 3rd century.  She took power when her husband passed away prematurely.  She supported the piracy of Roman and Greek vessels on the Adriatic and even attacked Sicily.  She learned that antagonizing the Romans was not a wise thing to do.  Although she had a powerful navy she met her match when, in 219, the Romans sent a large fleet to the eastern shores of the Adriatic.  This started a protracted war and in 228 Queen Teuta submitted to Rome.  As a result, the Romans took control of the entire Balkan peninsula.  The Romans did not destroy the Illyrian people or their kingdom.

We took an early evening walk through old town Trogir and really enjoyed seeing it in the twilight. Of course we couldn't resist sampling some of Trogir's finest gelato and doing a little people watching.  Tomorrow we plan to hop a ferry to Split and get a second look at Croatia's second largest city.
