Today we flew to Reno to start our Lake Tahoe adventure. We landed in Reno around 4:30 local time after a three hour layover in Denver. We made our way to the Plaza Resort Club hotel where we will spend the night. Despite its fancy name the hotel turned out to be well past its prime located in a part of town that has also seen better days. We took a short stroll downtown along their Riverwalk along the Truckee river. The Truck River is 121 miles long and goes from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid lake, about 40 miles northeast of Reno. The river was named after the Paiute Chief Truckee. The river was an important water source for emigrants including the Donner Party. Today the riverwalk is under heavy renovation and is a popular spot for the local homeless population. With the sun setting, Laura and I found a decent pizza joint for a quick dinner before returning to our "resort".
